Each temple is a house in which people come to worship God and purify the soul. It doesn’t matter if it’s magnificent or a small church.

But the architecture of some temples becomes an exception to the general rules, subject to the whims of architects. This does not detract from their importance, but causes additional interest from numerous tourists, regardless of their religion.

The most interesting churches and cathedrals in the world

World famous Sagrada Familia, combining in its architecture the romance of fairytale castles and the strict Gothic style characteristic of the Catholic churches, has been under construction for 135 years, and the end of construction has not yet been seen. You can admire this miracle of architectural art during a sightseeing tour of Barcelona.

When traveling around Catalonia, it is worth visiting one of the most unusual monasteries called San Miguel Del Fai. It is located near Barcelona and makes an indelible impression due to its location on a high cliff. This monastery was built in the X century directly in the caves of the cliff. Its history is fanned with legends, because before the arrangement of the monastery, pagans chose this place for their sacrifices.

In the Thessaly region of Greece are the original Meteora monastery complex. In the XIV century, fleeing the Ottomans, Greek Orthodox monks built for themselves high in the mountains several monasteries. It was possible to get to them only with the help of a rope ladder, which was lowered from above, and then removed. At least once in your life it’s worth visiting these places in order to purify the soul and admire not only the skill of a person, but also the beautiful surrounding landscapes, especially since stairs were cut especially for tourists in the rocks.

The small town of Dyatkovo (Russia, Bryansk region) will surprise visitors with its crystal Church of the Icon of the Mother of God "Burning Cupid". This is the only temple in the world where the entire iconostasis, chandeliers, chandeliers, candlesticks are made of crystal, which took several tons. All this beauty was created by the "crystal" manufacturer Maltzov at the beginning of the 19th century. Inside the church, the parishioners have the impression that they are in an ice palace.

Wooden Holy Trinity Cathedral, located in the Dnipropetrovsk region of Ukraine, is the largest in Europe. This is the only temple in the world with nine log cabins and nine tops. This temple was "sung" in his novel "Cathedral" by the famous writer Oles Gonchar.

Some European temples not only fly up to heaven, but also go deep underground, such as French church Saint-Jean, located in the village of Obter-sur-Dron. In the XII century, this church was equipped in caves made by monks in the limestone mountain. For several centuries, no one except the initiates had even guessed about it. And only in the middle of the last century did the European public learn about the Saint-Jean church. Now tourists are shown crypts and stone sarcophagi, which store the holy relics and other relics that have survived to this day.

There are many more interesting cathedrals, temples and houses of worship on our planet, which, along with spiritual ones, carry aesthetic values, becoming only richer and more interesting from this.
