Holidays July 16

Accountant Day in Ukraine

Accountant Day in Ukraine is celebrated every year on July 16th. The date of the celebration was chosen taking into account the establishment of the corresponding law in 1999 "On accounting and financial reporting" in the territory of the Ukrainian state. This innovation determined the legal basis for the formation, regulation, maintenance, organization of accounting and financial reporting in the country. Based on the law, the purpose of accounting and financial reporting is, first of all, to provide users with complete and reliable information about the results of cash flows within the enterprise, as well as about its real financial situation.

Until 2004, this holiday in Ukraine did not have an official status, but was regularly celebrated by the Federation of Accountants and Auditors, due to which the prestige of the profession gradually increased. This has contributed to the fact that over time, government officials began to re-evaluate the specialty of an accountant. It became obvious that accounting is not a simple tax reporting, it is the basis for making the most important strategic decisions. So, in 2004, by the Decree of the President of Ukraine, Accountant Day acquired official status and became a full-fledged professional holiday in the country.

July 16 on the folk calendar

Stozhary. Name day Mokiah and Demida.

On July 16, the Orthodox Church commemorates Saints Mokios and Demides, who lived during the reign of Maximilian and were zealous guardians of the Christian faith. There is a belief that once they were captured by pagans and forced to worship idols, however, the brothers were adamant, and when they were brought to the altar, a small child appeared in defense of the saints, who appeared out of nowhere. He tried to stop the persecutors, for which he was badly beaten. But Mochia and Demides immediately beheaded.

This day in Russia was considered very unlucky and unsuitable for any undertakings. On this occasion, the peasants made one proverb: "Well, that's it, Moky and Demid have come - and the matter is in the field." On July 16, our ancestors also celebrated the Interns holiday, which was the Pleiades cluster (Taurus constellation). The appearance of the Pleiades in the night sky foreshadowed great luck to hunters, berry-mushroom pickers and fishermen. And indeed, people with great trepidation belonged to the mysterious stars, venerating them as angels, indicating the right path. By the way, in Russia there was even a romantic legend in this regard: it turns out that heavenly creatures specially open windows in their heavenly dwellings to observe people on Earth, and these windows are bright stars in the sky.

As the old people noticed, thunderstorms with heavy rain often occurred on this day, and the presence of mosquitoes and midges circling around the workers portended good clear weather for the coming week.

Historical events of July 16

July 16, 1748 - For the first time, Mikhail Lomonosov formulated the universal "law of conservation of matter"

Mikhailo Lomonosov was a very outstanding scientist of his time, and the spectrum of his activities touched on many aspects, including chemistry. At the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences, he served as professor of chemistry. It was he who was the first to "feel" the fundamental side of this science - the internal structure of matter. For a long time, Lomonosov sought the opening of an experimental laboratory at the academy. In the end, he achieved his goal, thereby obtaining the basis for further discoveries, and in 1748 the scientist first substantiated the "law of conservation of matter." He did this in a letter addressed to the great scientist - mathematician Euler. Later, the natural law discovered by Lomonosov received a more detailed explanation in his subsequent works.

July 16, 1945 - In Los Alamos, the world's first nuclear explosion

Four years before this event, the United States developed the basic principles for the implementation of this project (in history it was called the “Manhattan Project”), and in 1945, near Los Alamos, it was first put into practice: on the day we specified, an atomic explosion occurred devices of incredible power (the flash from it was visible at a distance of 300 km). The assembly of the uranium-plutonium bomb began on July 12, two days later the device was fixed on top of a pre-built tower, detonators were also installed, and on July 16 the installation was “safely” blown up. By the way, two similar devices were dropped in the same year in August on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, after which they literally turned to ashes, more than two hundred thousand people were destroyed as a result of a demonstrative bombardment. With such an act, America tried to intimidate the Soviet Union, but soon nuclear weapons were created here, led by I. Kurchatov.

July 16, 1994 - Comet Shoemaker-Levy-9 crashed into Jupiter

On the date of our review, a huge comet, named after the astronomers who discovered it, ended its existence in the layers of the giant planet Jupiter, crashing into it. The comet was by no means "not alone", most likely it was a chain of more than twenty blocks of cosmic ice and other "garbage". Each block was the size of Everest. The total collision effect was equivalent to the explosion of a billion atomic bombs. Now imagine for a moment if this body changed course to Earth? Indeed, by cosmic standards, the distance between the planets is quite small - a trifle for a comet "traveling" with stunning speed. Fortunately, the gravitational force of Jupiter is a million times more powerful than the Earth, which is why it, and not our cosmic home, pulled deadly bodies.
