Canadian scientists have conducted a serious study on the relationship between prematurity and mental health. The observation was attended by people born in the interval 1977-1982. Among the volunteers, 84 people at birth had a weight of less than one kilogram and 90 people with a normal weight.

It turned out that people born with extremely low birth weight, becoming adults, were twice as likely to suffer from depression, various anxiety conditions and attention deficit disorder. At the same time, the first three times less than others were exposed to alcoholism and drug addiction.

People born prematurely, and whose mothers took hormonal drugs shortly before delivery, had a very high risk of mental disorders and, in addition, were not protected from alcohol and drug addiction.
