The poet Rasul Gamzatov initiated the annual celebration of this day. The purpose of the White Cranes Festival is not only the Christian veneration of the heroes who sacrificed their lives for the glory of the Motherland and the patriotic education of youth, but also to strengthen the traditions and foundations of the inhabitants of Russia, to unite people of different nationalities living in the territory of a large country. The name of the holiday was due to the popular poem of Ruslan Gamzatov "White Cranes", the lines of which were put to music and performed by Mark Bernes. In Dagestan, the White Crane Festival has been celebrated for more than a decade, and only relatively recently it became the All-Russian. The crane is a bird wise, kind and faithful, it is not surprising that it has become a symbol of friendship and unity, courage and devotion. In Japan, it is a symbol of longevity and prosperity, in China - immortality, in African countries - the messenger of the gods, in Christian countries - symbolizes patience and humility.
